dear diary,
a quick sidenote to my hungarian readers: this diary was started by calvin, who uploaded my emails from the road to this blog. there you go...
we have been offline for quite a while, but now—sitting in curry village, yosemite park—we will try to make up for the missed entries. there’s still no connection in sight, but we’re writing our entries anyways, hoping we can upload them in the next few days.
since our last message, we drove up the big sur coastline to santa cruz, then sailed on to san francisco, and now we’re the yosemite national park.
we left cambria on friday morning after drinking coffee on top of a huge rock on the ocean. the weather was actually pretty hazy, with several clouds hanging over the coast, but this made the entire experience more mystic. as soon as we crossed over the coast range, the sun came out. weird. we wanted to check out hearst mansion, but it was also covered by a cloud, so we drove on.
A few miles later we arrived to a beach covered with gigantic elephant seals, that stank, made disgusting noises, but were absolutely amazing to watch, as they did nothing, just laid around on the sand.
the parking lot adjacent to beach was ruled by fearless sea-squirrels, that attempted to eat our brains. ok, not really, but close. they came a few inches close, and just had a funky look in their eyes.
we drove north after escaping the blood squirrels, and hit a few picturesque spots, like the pfeiffer beach. this place has gigantic rocks right on the ocean. one of them features a tunnel in the middle, which amplifies the waves as they run through.
the weather stayed misty, and as we kept cruising north, the big sure stretch appeaaed as a location for one of the lord of the rings films. we gave carmel an hour to show us its bohemian charm, but we saw more of an upper class resort with truly beautiful houses and a nice sandy beach.
at this point, it was time to link up with bob, who took us in for a night in santa cruz, showed us the ucsc campus, took us around for a few drinks and just generally contributed to our recreational state. bob lives like a monk in santa cruz, and we were very excited to get a glimpse of it. go bob!
